JCD SAVE YOUR MONEY AND JUST STAY HOME

This was quite possibly the worst musical I’ve ever seen. It missed on so many levels and just left people laughing at its absurdity. Pialate dressed as a biker! It was the Rocky Horror Show version of JCD.

ARE THEY PROFESSIONALS?

The sound was horrible! Sound mixing in a million times easier with new technology. That said, there are better soloists on YouTube. The music is complex, so singers have to stick to the melody or understand improvisation. Almost every singer except for Mary wandered off pitch similar to the second round of American Idol tryouts. This is not indicative of the amazing singers that are in the Broadway community. Poor casting and staffing all around.

BAD DIRECTING, BAD LIGHTING, BAD SOUND

Considering this is supposed to be “Broadway” quality, this production lacked everything that would fall into that category. The first 1/4 of the show the players stood and sang directly to the audience either with a hand held mike or a mike stand. For 20 minutes the entire audience had no idea what characters were who or what was going on. There was barely any interaction between characters to establish relationships or to define who they were. The sound quality was awful (incoherent). Then all of a sudden a woman starts singing “I don’t know how to love him”. Nothing made sense theatrically. Ultimately they are supposed to be telling a story not singing or dancing at the audience. The lighting at the theater was awful - could barely make out the faces of the cast and it became a strain to watch. The songs were sung at breakneck speed and the whole thing was a mess. Save your money and don’t see this. Real disappointment.

THE WORST

Save your money, the worst disaster on stage, from sound tech to choreography to singing. The songs felt contrived and were drowned out by the music, staffing was poor, and nothing felt professional.

A TEST OF ENDURANCE

Perhaps only two talented vocalists in the bunch. The screaming was overpowering and the melodic sections didn’t connect. The choreography looks like it was created by an unenthusiastic Zumba instructor. The set was unchanging as well as wardrobe. A bizarre drag show to portray who I think might be Caesar? Very hard to figure out who is who since there is no supporting dialogue for interaction between songs. I know we can’t actually whip an actor on stage, but you need to do a bit better than gold glitter. What sent me over the edge into silent laughter was the use of a power drill to affix Jesus to the cross. A power drill… really? That was the first time I’ve ever looked forward to a crucifixion as it meant it was time to leave.

YELLING AND SCREAMING

Cannot understand any lyrics, constant yelling and screaming into microphones. If you like really loud stuff that you cannot understand, this is your show.

JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR

The words in songs were unintelligible due to all of the screaming. Only the song "I Don't Know How to Love Him" could be understood by a singer who had a beautiful voice. The choreography was fair. The sets were very good and the lighting was very dramatic. What's the point of a production that lost this attendee with unbearable yelling? The person I went with to this performance felt the same way that I did.
